Safety step mats STM

Safety mats are used to safeguard danger zones on machines and systems to prevent uncontrolled access. The safety mat can be individually adapted to the area to be protected. The closed-circuit current principle used here ensures constant monitoring of the contact mat's function.

Function

Functional description of safety mats

The STM safety mat has two double-core connection cables and offers the option of connecting several mats in series up to a maximum total area of 10 m². One end of the cable is connected to the evaluation electronics and the other end is fitted with the terminating resistor (prepared at the factory). The electronics now monitor the entire cable section, including the mat, up to the terminating resistor. When external force is applied, the contact surfaces in the mat touch and bridge the resistor. This immediately causes a signal in the electronics, which is output as a potential-free relay contact. At the same time, the entire switching arrangement is monitored for wire breakage or tampering.

Simple installation
If the surface is reasonably level, clean and free of foreign objects, installation is very simple and cost-effective. It is only necessary to ensure that the connecting cables of the Safety Mat are suitably laid for mutual connection. All Safety Mats are connected together and the cables are laid around the perimeter of the Safety Mats. The perimeter edge is fitted around the surface, ensuring that all connecting cables are routed securely. Finally, the substrate is drilled and suitable fasteners are installed to secure the perimeter. Wiring the safety mats to the evaluation unit is just as simple, as there are only two connection wires for the entire system. This means that only a minimum of technical experience is required. Application

With the FMSC-STM electronic switching device , safety contact mats and emergency stop switches can be retrofitted to an existing system without having to make significant changes to the existing safety circuit. An approval push button can also be installed to bypass a contact mat.
