Securing impact shears
Impact shears are part of the basic equipment in many sheet metal processing companies - and are also among the most accident-prone machines. There is a high risk of injury for operators and people in the danger zone, both on the insertion side and on the rear side. Fiessler Elektronik offers optical system solutions that combine modern safety technology with high productivity.
Initial situation: High hazard, inflexible mechanics
Traditionally, guillotine shears were primarily protected by mechanical guards:
- Fixed grilles and deflectors on the insertion side
- On the rear side via safety doors or protective grilles
Although these solutions provide protection, they have significant disadvantages:
- Low flexibility with changing formats and processes
- Obstruction of material flow and handling
- Restricted view of the work area
- High mechanical wear and maintenance costs
Such rigid solutions are often no longer up to date for modern, economical sheet metal processing.
Our solution: Optical safety devices for insertion and rear area
Fiessler Elektronik relies on optical safety systems for the protection of guillotine shears - both for:
- the insertion side (requirement: finger protection)
- as well as the rear area (requirement: body protection)
Instead of mechanical grids, safety light curtains and light grids are used, which:
- reliably monitor the danger zones
- keep access open for materials and operators
- and at the same time do not restrict the production flow.
The systems used fulfill safety category 4, PL e, SIL 3 and therefore meet the highest functional safety requirements.
