Press brakes

Specialized system solutions for press brakes

Operating press brakes safely and productively

Press brakes are indispensable in sheet metal processing - at the same time, they are among the most dangerous machines in the production process. With AKAS®, Fiessler Elektronik offers a system solution specially developed for press brakes that optimally combines finger protection and productivity.

Challenge: Danger to hands and fingers

During die bending, the upper tool (bending punch) moves against the stationary lower tool (die) to form the sheet metal part in between.

Particularly with small parts, small series and individual parts, operators must hold, guide and align the workpiece by hand during the entire bending process. Hands and fingers are in the immediate danger zone between the bending punch, material and die - the risk of crushing and injury is high.

Our solution: Moving finger protection with AKAS®

The AKAS® moving optical safety light grid prevents any part of the body from coming between the bending punch and the material or die.

As soon as the LASER optical safety line is interrupted, the system stops the dangerous movement sequence - thus reliably protecting the operator's hands and fingers.

Functional principle of the AKAS® system solution

The AKAS® system unit is a protective device specially developed for press brakes and press brakes. It consists of

  • AKAS® transmitter
  • AKAS® receiver
  • the FMSC safety controller from Fiessler Elektronik
  • AMS3 with AKRB or AKFH/AKFR

Structure of the protective line

  • The AKAS® transmitter generates modulated, visible red light laser beams.
  • The receiver has receiving elements with integrated evaluation electronics.
  • The transmitter and receiver are permanently mounted on the upper beam of the press brake and form a LASER-optical safety edge in front of the upper tool.

This moving safety edge monitors the danger zone directly in front of the upper tool. During the entire bending process, hands remain free for handling the blank - while at the same time providing effective protection for limbs.

Automatic adaptation to tool sizes

AKAS® transmitters and receivers are connected to the supports via electric motor drives. This enables a:

  • quick, simple and fully automatic adjustment
  • to different tool heights and sizes.

possible. The system automatically adapts to the respective tool situation - without time-consuming manual adjustment.

Features and benefits of AKAS® on press brakes

  • Innovative finger protection directly on the upper tool
Leading LASER-optical safety light grids protect the danger zone directly in front of the bending punch.
  • Protection during the entire bending process
Operation with a safety foot switch ensures continuous finger and hand protection.
  • Hands free for parts handling
Even the smallest parts can be guided and optimally positioned with the hands during the entire stroke - while at the same time protecting the limbs.
  • Greater productivity thanks to adaptation to the machine overtravel
The programmable adaptation of AKAS® to the respective overtravel of the machine is the ideal combination of safety and cycle performance.
  • Short set-up times
Fully automatic changeover to other tool sizes significantly reduces set-up times and increases machine availability.
  • Patent application underlines innovative strength
The patent-pending adjustment device for securing press brakes demonstrates Fiessler Elektronik's technological leadership in the field of press brake safety.
