Production lines

In roll-to-roll production, materials are processed as a continuous web - e.g. sheet metal strips, veneers, paper, foils (plastic/metal), wires or tubes. Decisive for stable processes are

• Quality assurance in real time (early detection of markings and defects, minimization of rejects)
• Process stability through web guiding & tension/buffer control
• High speeds, changing materials, fluctuating transparency/surfaces

Fiessler electronics support two central tasks here:

Detection in the web (hole/crack/miss)

Detection of hole markings, holes, cracks and defects in web materials such as sheet metal strips, foils (metal/plastic), paper webs, veneers - contactless with transmitter/receiver and a modulated infrared light band.

Use in roll-to-roll processes:

• Hole-marked weld seam detection
• Early detection of material defects: fewer rejects, less downtime
• Suitable for wide webs and fast lines
• Adaptable to material properties (e.g. transparency)

Control of slack/buffers between machines (constant material guidance)

Non-contact measurement of the position of web materials in the measuring field. This allows the slack/buffer between successive machines to be continuously controlled.

Benefit in roll-to-roll processes:

• Stable material flow between units (e.g. unwinding - process machine - rewinding)
• Prevents tension peaks, loop breakage, unsteady running
• Better than pure two-point control because proportional control is possible
